I never travel without…
My mobile phone. Not that I want to stay in touch, but my music library is a must for relaxing, and the convenience of a camera phone for capturing all things that inspire me makes this my travel must have.
Insider travel trip
A lesser known Busan secret is the recently opened abandoned train tracks of the Donghae Nambu line, a 5-kilometer walk covering the coastal area of Busan, is a trekking course that brilliantly captures the ecology, culture and story of the city. It meanders along the old coastal rail line from Haeundae to Songjeong – a great little seaside area for a coffee and cake to rewards oneself at the end of the walk.
Everything water. I love swimming and water sports; be it out on the ocean, or lazing on the beach. Being in Busan, I have found the perfect city to enjoy all of these things and more.
Your best travel memory
Those precious trips with my family to somewhere new. There is nothing better than visiting somewhere for the first time with people whom you can share the experiences and memories with long after you return home. One of my fondest was a winter snow covered stay in a beautiful Japanese onsen village only an hour or so outside of Tokyo. Felt like being in another time and I would stay again in a heartbeat.
Things I love about Park Hyatt Busan
It has to be the view of the ocean and especially the Gwangan Bridge in the evening, all lite up. When I am in the hotel at night, whether it be to inspect one of our guest room for an arriving guest, enjoying a meal in our restaurant’s, a night cap in the bar, or a post work run on the gym treadmill, I am always in awe of the beautiful view that our hotel offers to guests. The beauty of Haeundae’s skyline at night is something that surprises many and leaves a lasting impression.

Park Hyatt Busan Concierge
What's the most important thing you learned about travel?
I think that travelling is an opportunity to enjoy leisure and experience new cultures by getting away from busy life. In particular, travelling is very helpful for understanding what customers want from me as a concierge.
What is your favorite cultural place to walk to from your hotel?
Among the cultural attractions of Busan, I like the Donghae Nambu Line Track, also known as the Mipochulgil. Opened in 1934, this stretch of land features superb coastal views, from Busan to Gyeongju. In December 2013, it was closed to train traffic as new track passing through Haeundae and downtown was opened. Now that the land has been transformed into a trail, it has become a great place to enjoy the sounds of the waves and the varying landscapes of blooms and reeds and brushy green leaves, all of which are beautiful during all the seasons.
If you have KRW 10,000 to spend on lunch, where would you eat? If you had KRW 100,000?
With KRW 10,000, I recommend pork and rice soup in cold weather and wheat noodle in hot weather. Diners can eat a lot of this sort of food, which is cheap and represents popular Busan cuisine. For pork and rice soup, Busan Daejigukbap & Suyuk is located about five minutes’ walking distance from Haeundae Beach. For wheat noodle, Gaya Halmae Milmyeon, located in Nampo-dong, is famous.
For those with a budget of KRW 100,000, I recommend the Japanese restaurant Mitaki, located in the Dalmaji Hill in Haeundae. Guests here can enjoy fresh Japanese seafood while enjoying the ocean landscape of Haeundae Beach. On special days, it is a great experience to enjoy Jacuzzi on the restaurant’s outdoor terrace.
What have guests been asking about lately? What kind of experiences are they looking for?
Due to the popularity of the Korean film “Kukje Market”, which is set in Busan, a lot of people enquire about visiting the actual market that the movie depicts. The market, which is called Kkangtong Market, is an important part of Busan’s modern history as it was a place where refugees sold and bought products during the Korean War. Nowadays, visitors to the market can buy cheap products and enjoy a variety of street food, making the place popular with locals and tourists alike.
If you could learn to create one dish at the hotel restaurant, what would it be?
I like all of the desserts that are enjoyed with coffee, especially the canelés at the hotel’s pastry boutique Patisserie. Canelés, which are chewy and sweet, are among the best desserts I have ever eaten, which is why I want to learn how to make them.
What is your favorite piece of artwork in the hotel?
I like “Brush” by the artist Lee Jung-woong, located near the Salons on the 1st floor of the hotel. Because it is also near the Concierge Desk, I see it often. The piece embodies a refined atmosphere, harmonising traditional Korean images with the modern interior of the hotel.
Is there an interesting fact about your hotel that many people don't know?
I want to introduce luggage service at the Busan Station Service Desk, managed by the hotel’s Concierge and Bell Desk. Customers travelling via the Busan Station can freely tour Busan or the hotel, before check in or after check out, leaving luggage in the care of our staff at the station. After travelling around Busan, guests can conveniently retrieve their luggage by simply going to the Busan station and finding the service desk managed by the hotel.
Tell us about a rare and unique experience you have curated for guests in your location?
Sunrise on Haeundae Beach is a memorable and valuable experience in Busan, which is very much a city of the sea. In particular, watching the sunrise from Dongbaek Island provides the dynamic energy of the sun and the fresh morning air, making for a cheerful start to the day. I also recommend visiting Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, which is built into a rock wall near the sea, or viewing the sunrise from the steep sea cliffs of Taejongdae.
Is there one other Park Hyatt hotel and resort in particular you love or are dying to visit?
I want to visit about all other Park Hyatt hotels located in landmark cities around the world. I expect new experiences, views and services at each property, which all reflect each region’s particular culture.
